Recreation Center Strategic Committee and Metro District Discussion Feb 21st
Since the Mission Viejo recreation center, operated most recently as SouthEast Fitness and Recreation Center closed this past November, many residents have voiced their concern about the center and efforts were explored in many different directions. As this facility was originally conceived as an integral part of our community we created a strategic committee whose purpose is to find solitions to help ensure a possible better future and continued use of the facility as a recreation center.
On February 21st we had Mr.Errol Rowland and Mr. Van Lewis from Heather Ridge Metro District told us how they formed a Metro District in 2009 when a non-interested owner of their club house and golf course had lined up many land speculators wanting to purchase the property and potentially sell-off their clubhouse and the golf course. The Heather Ridge residents got together and formed a metro-district and then with the assistance of a special bond, the district was able to purchase the building and the golf course and now the community forever owns and controls this important community asset. Below is the meeting recorded on the Mission Viejo YouTube channel.
