There is more than one Mission Viejo. Our neighborhood in Aurora, Colorado was built by the Mission Viejo Company, the developer that first created the planned community of Mission Viejo in Orange County, California in the 1960s. When the company expanded outside California it brought the name, the Spanish street names and the “Mission Bell” street lights with it, opening Mission Viejo in Aurora in 1972 and later building Highlands Ranch.
